About 4usenet

How we make money

4usenet earns from affiliate links and clearly labeled sponsored slots. See what that changes, what it never changes, and how we count outbound clicks.

You can use 4usenet for free, and nothing sits behind a paywall. The site makes money in two ways: affiliate commission when you buy through some of our links, and sponsored slots that are always labeled. Coming through 4usenet never makes your subscription more expensive.

Affiliate links

Buttons such as "Claim deal" and "Go to Newshosting" send you through a short redirect on our own domain (an address that starts with /go/) and on to the provider's site. If that provider runs an affiliate programme and you buy after the click, the provider pays us a commission. The redirect carries rel="sponsored" and is kept out of search engines.

Not every provider pays us. Providers without an affiliate programme still appear in the comparison table, the reviews and the backbone map, and their buttons go to our review or straight to the provider's site.

Sponsored slots

Some pages carry a sponsored block for one provider. It always begins with the word "Sponsored" and uses a different color from our own content, and it is never placed above the page's main heading. A page has two of these at most.

What commission does not change

  • We map backbones, retention and takedown rules the same way for every provider, whether it pays us or not.
  • The comparison table is sorted by retention by default, not by commission, and you can re-sort it by price, name or backbone.
  • Brands on the same network are always marked. If two brands serve the same stored files, we say so, even when both pay us commission.
  • The editorial score follows the published method.

How clicks are counted

When you click a /go/ link, we record which offer you clicked, the time, your browser's user-agent string, the page you came from, the country your connection reports (if our hosting supplies it) and a one-way hash of your IP address. We use this to count clicks per offer. Your IP address itself is not stored. Our privacy notice has the details.
