Eweka vs XS News

Short answer

Choose Eweka as your main unlimited account if you want the longest Dutch NTD retention: 6,615 days on its own servers, €6.99 a month when you pay 15 months up front (€104.85). For most people Eweka makes the better main account and XS News the better add-on. Eweka keeps posts about 2,600 days longer. XS News is cheaper per year, gives you more connections and sells blocks that never expire. They run on different backbones, so you do not have to choose: you can use both.

What they share

Both are Dutch and follow notice and takedown (NTD): a rights holder has to report a specific post, and the provider removes it once the notice comes in. Both sell unlimited plans in euros, both support SSL, and both slot into SABnzbd or NZBGet as an ordinary server, with no extra software.

Where they differ

  • Backbone. Eweka stores its own copy of Usenet. XS News runs on Abavia, a separate network that EasyUsenet, StingyUsenet and LatinUsenet also resell. Both families are on the backbone map.
  • Retention. Eweka lists 6,615 days, XS News 4,000. A post older than about 11 years can only still be on Eweka.
  • Connections and servers. Eweka allows 50 connections, to servers in the Netherlands. XS News allows 100 on its unlimited plan and up to 200 on blocks, with servers in the Netherlands, the rest of Europe and the US.
  • Plans. Eweka only sells unlimited. XS News sells unlimited, a Basic 50 plan and prepaid blocks from 100 GB to 5,000 GB.
  • Extras. Eweka includes a VPN with its 15-month offer. XS News lists no VPN, but it does give you 14 days to ask for your money back.

What you pay

Prices as shown on the official pages on 22 and 23 October 2026:

  • Eweka: €6.99 a month if you pay 15 months up front (€104.85). The 12-month plan is €9.00 a month (€108.00). Month to month it is €9.50.
  • XS News Unlimited: €4.95 a month billed yearly, about €59.40. The monthly price of about €9.95 was not shown as a separate total on the checkout page, so check it before you pay month to month.
  • XS News blocks: 100 GB for €9.95, 250 GB for €14.95, 1,000 GB for €29.95 and 5,000 GB for €59.95. None of them expire.

Over 12 months, XS News Unlimited works out about €48.60 cheaper than Eweka's 12-month plan. Eweka's 15-month offer brings the monthly price down, but you hand over the full €104.85 at once.

Choose Eweka if…

  • Your indexers often turn up older posts, or you are filling a back catalogue in Sonarr or Radarr.
  • You want one unlimited account and no second server to look after.
  • You want a VPN in the same payment.
  • 50 connections is enough for your connection speed.

Choose XS News if…

  • You mostly download recent posts, and 4,000 days already goes back a long way.
  • You want the smaller yearly bill.
  • You like the idea of a block that you pay for once and use until it runs out.
  • You live outside the Netherlands and want servers nearer to you, including in the US. Test your own connection before you pay up front.
  • You want more than 50 connections.

Using Eweka and XS News together

Because each keeps its own stored files, a second account can find articles the first one is missing. Put the one with longer retention first: Eweka at priority 0, and an XS News block at priority 1, marked optional. SABnzbd then only asks XS News for articles Eweka could not deliver, so the block only spends gigabytes when it actually fills a gap.

  1. Server 1: news.eweka.nl, SSL on, priority 0, up to 50 connections.
  2. Server 2: reader.xsnews.nl, SSL on, priority 1, optional, with fewer connections than server 1.
  3. After a few weeks, open the server statistics in SABnzbd and see how much server 2 delivered.

The other way round makes less sense. With XS News as your main account, the backup for posts older than 4,000 days would have to be a full Eweka unlimited plan, because Eweka does not sell blocks.

There is one limit. Both providers follow Dutch NTD, so a post removed after a notice at one may be gone at the other too. If takedowns cause most of your failed jobs, a backup on a DMCA network such as UsenetExpress covers a different set of gaps. Block fill for Eweka compares both routes.

What the pair costs

Eweka's 15-month offer plus a 1,000 GB XS News block comes to €134.80 for the first 15 months. Whatever is left on the block carries over after that, since it never expires.

Common questions

Is XS News on the same backbone as Eweka?

No. XS News runs on Abavia, while Eweka stores its own copy of Usenet. EasyUsenet, StingyUsenet and LatinUsenet are the brands that share Abavia with XS News.

Which one keeps posts longer?

Eweka, with 6,615 days against 4,000 for XS News. If a post is older than about 11 years, Eweka is the only one of the two that can still have it.

Can I buy Eweka as a block?

No, Eweka only sells unlimited plans. If you want prepaid gigabytes, XS News blocks start at €9.95 for 100 GB and never expire.

Does an XS News block fix takedown gaps on Eweka?

Only partly. Both follow Dutch NTD, so a post removed after a notice may be gone on both. A block on a DMCA network such as UsenetExpress does a better job with that kind of gap.

Which is cheaper per year?

XS News Unlimited, at about €59.40 billed yearly. Eweka is €108.00 on the 12-month plan, or €104.85 for 15 months on the special offer.
