Head to head

Newshosting vs UsenetServer

Short answer

Pick UsenetServer if you want the same Highwinds files for less: $7.95 a month on 12 months ($95.40) against $12.95 ($155.40) for Newshosting. Pick Newshosting if you need up to 100 connections instead of 60. Both keep 6,618 days under DMCA on one shared copy of Usenet, so never buy both as main account and backup.

Same network Newshosting and UsenetServer sell the same Highwinds files. Pick one, because the second will not fill in missing articles.

Newshosting and UsenetServer sell the same files under two names. Both resell Highwinds, so you get the same copy of Usenet, 6,618 days of retention and DMCA takedowns either way. The real choice is about price, connection limit, plan length and the extras. If price is all you care about, UsenetServer wins.

What they share

  • Backbone. Both run on Highwinds, along with Easynews. The backbone map puts all three in one family.
  • Retention. 6,618 days on both, since the files are stored once.
  • Takedown rules. US DMCA. A post removed after a notice disappears from both at the same moment.
  • Extras. Both include PrivadoVPN and a free newsreader.

Where they differ

  • Connections. Newshosting allows 100, UsenetServer 60. The extra 40 mostly matter on a very fast line or when several people download at the same time.
  • Server locations. Newshosting lists the US, the Netherlands and Germany. UsenetServer lists the US and Europe.
  • Web reader. UsenetServer has one and Newshosting does not, which helps if you want to browse without installing anything.
  • Plan lengths. Newshosting sells 1, 6 and 12 months. UsenetServer sells 1, 3 and 12 months.

What you pay

Prices from the official sites, checked on 22 October 2026:

  • Newshosting: $12.95 a month on 12 months ($155.40), $13.95 a month on 6 months ($83.70), or $14.95 month to month. The $1.99 15-month promo you may see online was not on the plans page or the partner signup page that day.
  • UsenetServer: $7.95 a month on 12 months ($95.40), $8.95 a month on 3 months ($26.85), or $14.95 month to month. One partner checkout page has shown $10.00 for one month.

On the 12-month plans, UsenetServer saves you $60.00 a year for exactly the same files. Month to month, both cost $14.95, so it comes down to connections and the web reader.

Choose Newshosting if…

  • You want more than 60 connections, for a fast line or a busy household.
  • You want a 6-month plan rather than a full year.
  • You want the Netherlands and Germany listed as server locations.
  • Your apps and guides already use news.newshosting.com and you would rather not change them.

Choose UsenetServer if…

  • You want Highwinds for the lowest yearly price of the two.
  • You want a web reader as well as NNTP access.
  • You want to try 3 months before you sign up for a year.
  • 60 connections is enough for your line.

Do not combine these two

A second account on the same network adds no files. When an article is missing on Newshosting, it is missing on UsenetServer as well, because both read the same copy. Setting one at priority 0 and the other at priority 1 in SABnzbd just retries the same gap and doubles your bill. Easynews, the third brand on these servers, has the same problem. Why Newshosting plus UsenetServer is not a stack goes through the usual mistakes.

If you are switching from one to the other, keep both for a few days while you move your settings over. Then cancel the old account before it renews.

What to add instead

Keep one of the two at priority 0 and add a backup from a different family. Two examples from our data:

  • Eweka at priority 1: its own copy of Usenet under Dutch NTD, so posts removed under DMCA may still be there. It is a second unlimited plan, at €6.99 a month if you pay 15 months up front (€104.85).
  • An XS News block at priority 1, optional: Abavia, 1,000 GB for €29.95 that never expires. It only uses data when the Highwinds account misses an article.

Both prices were checked on 22 and 23 October 2026. Block fill for Newshosting helps you choose a block size, and the same advice works for UsenetServer.

Common questions

Yes. Both resell Highwinds and read the same stored files, with the same 6,618 days of retention. Easynews is the third brand on it.

Is UsenetServer just a cheaper Newshosting?

As far as the files go, yes, because they come from the same place. The accounts differ in connections (60 against 100), the server locations they list, the web reader and the plan lengths.

Will a UsenetServer account fill gaps in Newshosting?

No. An article missing on one is missing on the other. Choose a backup from another family, such as Eweka, Abavia or UsenetExpress.

Which one is cheaper?

UsenetServer, at $7.95 a month on 12 months ($95.40), against $12.95 a month ($155.40) for Newshosting. Month to month, both cost $14.95.

Is the $1.99 Newshosting deal still available?

It was not on the official plans page or the partner signup page when we checked on 22 October 2026. Look at the total on the checkout page before you pay.
